INLAND WATERWAYS TRANSPORT

The NST department is the nodal department which liaises and coordinates with the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, GoI. for development of Inland Water Transport in the state.

Status of NW-101 Tizu-Zungki:

 A joint inspection and hydrographic survey of NW-101 Tizu-Zungki were carried out from October 25 to October 30, 2024, by a team from IWAI Regional Office, Guwahati, along with officials from NST department. The final report of the joint survey is still awaited.

 The NST department have proposed for the development of IWT infrastructure at Doyang Reservoir, Noune, and Shilloi Lakes to boost water sports and tourism. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) has approved the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for these locations.

On November 26, 2024, MoPSW appointed M/S. RiTES to prepare the DPRs for Noune and Shilloi Lakes, which are expected to be completed within six months.

On October 19, 2024, M/S Cashion Pvt Ltd, Kochi, Kerala, was awarded the work for the preparation of DPR followed by FEED for the development of IWT at Doyang Reservoir.

 These efforts aim to enhance the IWT infrastructure in the state and promote tourism and water sports activities.
